The artist Florence Lemiegre tells us why she accepted the invitation:

It’s with great pleasure that I accepted to take part in the “Céramiques Olympiques” exhibition at the Terres d’Aligre gallery.

This invitation offers me, as a sculptural ceramic artist, a great opportunity to explore new dimensions of my art and engage with broader themes of human achievement and resilience.

Although my work is not initially linked to Olympic and sports themes, taking up the challenge of creating pieces for such an exhibition allows me to push my creative boundaries and tap into the universal language of athletics and competition. What’s more, it inevitably led me to reflect on the intersection of art, sport and culture.

And so, as I immerse myself in this exercise, I not only broaden my artistic horizons, but also realize that ceramic art and the Olympic Games, though seemingly unrelated, are ultimately linked by deep parallels that speak to the very essence of human endeavor and achievement.

Ceramists meticulously work and shape clay, giving it life and meaning, just like athletes who train relentlessly to perfect their art and achieve the pinnacle of physical excellence.

Each ceramic work can have a symbolic meaning, evoking emotions and ideas beyond its physical form; the emblematic symbols of the Olympic flame and the interlocking rings also have a deeper significance, echoing cooperation, excellence and peace.
